Saturday, July 26, 2008 - Still busy

I am still working on my angel quilt and have now

basted it and started the handquilting.

I have not been around much as I have had a knee operation

and also lost my Dad just after coming out of hospital and

then had to have our old cat Blackie who was 21 years old

put down. Lots to deal with and then still stuck in the house

and could not attend Dad's funeral was bad.

But now I am on the move again, knee still a bit stiff but moving

around.

Take care and hugs

Saturday, November 3, 2007 - My Pumpkin Patch

This is a picture of the x stitch pumpkin patch that I have finished.

I will be using it in a wallhanging quilt as I have some lovely

pumpkin fabric to match. I sometimes take a break from quilting and do

small x stitches to use. I dont like to frame all my work because it is just

too expensive and also having a small quilts makes it more special to me.

Friday, October 26, 2007 - Time flies by

Cannot believe that time has gone by so quickly and that I have not been to visit you all.

Somehow I got busy with what ? Dont know but I have been sewing a lot and have been working on my ufo's and have also completed a pumpkin x stitch and also am working on an older x stitch that I had started long ago and need to get done.

I am also working on the Potpourie group project and that is the wallhanging of summer. A basket with fabric flowers in. Have got a bit of inspiration and am working on it now.

Sadly we have lost our lovely cat Thandor that has gone missing. Am a bit heartbroken now but have such great memories of him.

Well take care and keep stitching

Sunday, September 30, 2007 - Quilt show

Hi all, I am still in a state of what did I see yesterday. Trying to remember all that I saw is still stuck in my mind. I have been to a quilt show and as most of you know there is so much to absorb and appreciate that it takes days to work through everything in our minds. The quilts were all special works of art and there were so many different styles that I am glad that I was not a judge at that show. The 1st prize winner was a small wallhanging and there was a lot of work that went into that.

The picture is the front of a winery with the double doors closed and the doors were made in tiny straight rows ontop of each other with different brown prints. The hinges were done in black and the barrel infront was also made from different browns. The creeper that grew against the wall was ivory leaves masses of them and all made seperately. and some were even made hanging loose from the others. There were some colored flower petals on the cobble stoned entrance and that was a whole piece of fabric. The 2nd prize one was of roses in a vase and the roses were lovely with some petals being done in the fold method and added into the rose for a 3d effect. The African quilts were so special and there was one that is stuck in my mind. It is also a wallhanging about 1metre in width and about 2 metres long. The centre has some plant pots of different sizes stacked ontop of each other and with fabric price tags with handwritten thoughts on them hanging from them. The quilter used lots of scraps to make a border of squares around the centre piece and then used all those ugly two hole buttons on the squares and that made me think about all these ugly buttons we have lying around. Also used textured wools sewn on and as you can see I seem to remember that quilt very well.

My feet and eyes hurt when we left and luckily hubby did the driving as I was left to think about all I saw.

I have had a good nights rest and am now very inspired to do more with my talent that the Good Lord has given me. Sew much too do sew little time!!!!!

Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - Fabric swaps are great.

I joined a group of friends for a fabric swaps and it is great fun and also a learning experience for me.

I have so far made 2 square and after completing the next 3 I felt something was not right and checked the measurements of the square. Well it was all wrong so I had to unpick all 3 and make them over. Luckily for me I have been able to just adjust them and now they are the correct size. What have I learned??? The saying goes "measure or check twice and cut once"" is so true and now I will always make sure I have the correct measurements. It is very difficult for me as my rulers are in centimetres and the square is in inches. It takes some working out to get the correct measurement in centimetres. But all's well that ends well.

We dont have our meetings this week as it is school holidays and then the matric exams begin. This year sure has gone by too quickly.

The Chicks group decided last week that we are going to do a Christmas table runner and I had to test the measurements and they just worked out fine. The runner looks great and I will get some pictures posted when my daughter is here with her camera. Wish I could get one for Christmas. Hope Father Christmas is listening.hohohohohoh!!!!

Monday, September 10, 2007 - Getting there

I am now busy with the last of the 4 fairy pillows and feeling great that I have been able to get a ufo done so quickly. It is actually very boring as I have lots of french knots to make but it looks great. Then it will be the backs and when summer comes soon the fairies will be happy to be in my lounge and not in my ufo basket which is still so full but at least they are done.

Tuesday, September 4, 2007 - Ufo's

Well at last I have been able to work at one of my ufo's which is 4 fairy pillows for my lounge. It is all in lime and purple and with Fairies on. It has been lying here for a while and now I have finished the branches and am busy with all the french knots. Want to have it finished for the summer as I have all lime greens and purple for summmer colors. It looks very cool in this heat of ours. I have now changed the lounge into spring colors which is yellow but I dont have much quilts in that color. will have to do something about it.
