Tuesday, April 29, 2008 - Busy Sewing Bag

I'm sorry I don't have a pattern to share for this project.  I just sort of "winged it" and came up with my own design for this busy bag, and in the process, busted a couple of fat quarters from my stash. Inspired by one that quilty friend Jacqui received as a gift recently (which I secretly coveted) I decided to try my hand at making one for myself to jam in among my books for quiet moments while I wait between lectures.

Closed, the busy bag measures about 6" x 9" and a strap holds it closed with Velcro tape.

I zig-zagged a rectangle of felt to the pocket on the inside front cover.

I stitched six ziplock bags to the centre, covering the bottoms with a strip of the contrasting fabric.

On the inside back cover, I zig-zagged a larger piece of felt to "stick" small fabric pieces to while I work.  I also stitched small pockets to hold a stitch ripper and glue stick (I'm a big fan of freezer paper/glue stick applique.

I actually made TWO of these, because I've got my 50,000 hits mark in mind, and decided this might be a welcome gift to someone in celebration.  I'll post more details about that as we get closer.

First of all, that fabric is delightful. The design is also great. It seems I saw something similar recently. It looks like a really handy item, small enough to keep with you. Rhoda

I agree, you should write the pattern and publish it. I'm sure there are lots of quilting magazines out there that would love to have it. I envision it as a place to keep blocks as I work on a project. I use sandwich bags a lot for keeping pieces straight and larger freezer sized bags for completed blocks. Gonna try this one too.

Okay, I don't think we have to vote on it we all think you should publish the pattern, cause we all want to buy one. You are so great at inventing new creations, I am so jealous. But at least I can come here and drool over them! Have a great day, Molly

Hey Nancy:

The workbook looks great! I just love the workbook that my friend Lynn made for me...the one that inspired you :-). I use it all the time for my Dear Jane and Psalms blocks. That reminds me that I never did get to posting a picture of it on my blog. I'd better do that! I have to go to Grandparents Day today at my grandson's school...he's in Kindergarten. But, I'll try to post pics on my blog to inspire some more ideas for everyone's workbooks :-). Hopefully, they'll be up on my blog by tonight.
