Sunday, April 27, 2008 - Clue #3 Life is a Stitch Mystery

How's everyone doing with their mystery quilt?  Keeping up?  My queen sized quilt top is ready to go to the Quilter-Man so when the "big reveal" happens, you're going to see a completed quilt.

Okay...onto the next clue...

Step #1

For crib size, select 6 nickels and set aside for a future clue.

For twin size, select 14 nickels and set aside for a future clue.

For queen size, select 18 nickels and set aside for a future clue.

Step #2

With remaining nickels, assemble two nickels with right sides together.  Sew a seam down one edge, and then a second seam along the opposite seam.

 Cut in quarters

Then assemble pairs in 4 patches, sew centre seam, and then press open.

Finished Unit

Step #3

Sew 4 patches randomly into strips.  Press.

  • For crib size, sew 2 strips of 13 four-patches, and 2 strips of 10 four-patches.
  • For twin size sew 2 strips of 15 four-patches, and 2 strips of 20 four-patches.
  • For queen size, sew 4 strips of 20 four patches.

Tuesday, April 29, 2008 - Cutting Directions for Queen size
Posted by Anonymous
According to your directions we need 162 nickel squares for the queen size. 56 were used in step one, 28 in step two and 18 are set aside for later. That leaves 60 for this step, yet we need 80 (four rows of twenty blocks). Am I reading this wrong or should I cut 20 more nickels?

Thank you, and love the mystery, Mary R
