Tuesday, May 23, 2006 - Hand Dyed Fun...

My Mother's Day this year started with a wonderful drive to a beautiful Herb Farm/Garden called The Thyme Garden.. in the coastal range mountains on the way to the Oregon Coast, in a little town of Alsea.  They were hosting their annual Mother's Day Celebration and Art Festival.  On the way there we just happened to locate an outdoor quilt show at a fuschia garden/farm.  After taking in the quilts.. many were from my local guild members and some where yet to be sent off to Katrina Relief.. we met Debbie Richman (also from my guild).. a truly wonderful artist and craftsperson.  She had a host of handmade soaps we couldn't pass up.. and then I learned that she also hand dyed fabrics... her real passion.  I couldn't resist treating myself.. an opportunity to start my Ricky Tims -like.. convergence quilt.  I came right home and cut my strips and spent monday putting it together.  I am still in the process as you can see...
I chose to put my strips back together slightly different than his instructions, because I liked the tiny boder it was creating.  Anyway.. am having fun with it, and plan to use it along with the kaleidoscope in my July presentaion at the guild.

Monday, May 22, 2006 - Oh My Gosh the Sewing Machine STOPPED

You can't image the fear that came over me when I was in the middle of the 3 new quilts for my summer session teaching were all one week from Open House.. and my Bernina STOPPED, dead in it's tracks.  Called the Machine DR in and aside from oil and R&R the prognosis wasn't too bad.  But two parts had to be ordered.. so away she went.  I borrowed my Mother in Law's machine to keep from having withdrawl.. however my quilting feet won't fit her's so the quilts went to Open House "as is".

Here's a peek at what's been going on from the sewing room -
Called Pink Lemonade.. created on EQ5

and Home Baked Memories.....   also created on EQ5   this class also includes a vintage Apron Pattern... which is now hanging with the quilt.. I need to get a picture of it... My FIRST official Apron Pattern.

I will share with you next the Kaleidoscope....... GrannaB

Wednesday, April 26, 2006 - Never enough hours...

I wish I could say I got all of the name badges done.. however I ran into more finish work on the embellishing than I had first intended.  Thanks Michelle for the encouragement... yes, the colors are fun to work with.. and the paper doll image is intended to be the back view of the red hatter.. the red button being the hat crown.  I wasn't happy with the size of the buttons available to me so I found some inexpensive silk flowers and pulled them apart to use behind the button to give it more of a hat look.  Had to make a run to the fabric store for the clear vinyl that will actually hold the name badge (on the reverse side)... Here's a finished look

Now just 23 to go....

Did get all of the paper piecing done today, and the fabrics are all cut and ready for assembly. !!

Took a break mid-day and got the prewashing and pressing done for the next two quilt projects which will be classes for the upcoming season.  I'll hold all that off for a future blog... Check back.. for more fun.. and memories! - grannab

Wednesday, April 26, 2006 - Changing Direction.. Project 2

I think I have a short attention span today. Since I last blogged I got the black strips cut, and three blocks sewn on the Graduation Quilt.. and then ripped out three blocks... ooops.. Orange to Black.. not Orange to Orange.  So that project has just taken a back seat for right now as I need to get busy on the Red Hat Name Badges that I am Paper Piecing.  They are to be handed out at our Quarterly Meeting this coming Saturday.  Here's a peek...

I really enjoy the paper piecing.. especially such a basic design as this paper dolly that I drafted on EQ5.  Well.. if I am to finish.. I best get back to it.  Hope you all are enjoying a productive quilt day as well - grannab

Wednesday, April 26, 2006 - Projects Galore... Happy Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!!

First blog here.. More to follow.  Today is a day off and I have alot to accomplish.  I thought I might share my projects with all of you as I move through my day.  Project #1 today is EJ's Graduation Quilt.  I will be finishing up the blocks as soon as I cut the last strips of black.
This quilt was started in a class that I took locally where we cut out fabrics for two quilts.. one small, childsize and one larger, adult size.  The small quilts were donated to the local CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and Corvallis Police to aid in the recovery of young children from Meth homes.
Here is an article that tells more about the class and cause and the quilt I made for donation.

So today I work on Quilt 2.. for EJ's high school graduation...
More later.. as I progress.... grannab
