About Me

I' m obsessed with quilting, I like to try a different pattern every time. Fabrics inspire me! I would like to try more artsy type wall hanging quilts. I have also been designing stained glass for more than 10 years.

Thursday, August 21, 2008 - Cage Comforters

I got busy last night and this morning, going through old flannel sheets and old comforters and cut up 20 Cage Comforters for the local animal shelter in my area. I hope you read my last blog on the Snuggle project and the Cage Comforters. How can you resist those little kitty cat faces? That pic was cut and pasted from the net of someones comforter that they made. Have a great day everyone, Kim

Thursday, August 21, 2008 - Snuggle Project/ Cage Comforters

I came across these 2 wonderful projects, which put together 2 of my favorite things, animals and quilting. Somehow I knew the two would someday overlap. I cut and pasted the paragraphs below.

For all you crafters out there with big mushy hearts like mine- I came across a great way to use your scrap yarn, felt, and/or fabric. It's called the Snuggles Project.

Basically you just make little blankets and send them to animal shelters for the lonely puppies and cats...they even have statistics that say animals are more likely to be adopted when they have a snuggle blanket! :)

The organization works with shelters worldwide and bring a little comfort and warmth to animals that really need it. You can get more info on their website at: http://www.snugglesproject.org/ They have the sizes that are needed on the website and even provide wonderful patterns for anyone unsure of what would work best.

So when you are knitting up your fall sweaters and Christmas gifts, save those bits of yarn and make a warm blankie for some sweet pup to snuggle into.

Here is another program that I found

Cage comforters are simple, small quilts placed in the cages of shelter animals. Not only do they make the cage a more comfortable place to be, but they also can help to increase an animal's chances of adoption. How? They reduce the stress animals feel while in a cage and they allow potential adopters to more easily see the animals as part of their homes and lives.

Anyone who can thread a needle can create a cage comforter, and help get an animal  adopted!

Wednesday, August 20, 2008 - Kicked it up a notch

I took the plain sheets that I recently bought and a white linen bed shirt ( which was the deal of the century, listed for $69.99 got for 3.99 at the store closing of Linens and Things) and bought some nice Aqua variegated thread and stitched a design around all the pillowcases, flat sheets and the bed shirt, should go really nice in my bedroom with the pillows I previously posted. Not much else... just getting ready for the first day of school for my son, YEAH  Can't wait for Monday!! Maybe I can get on the computer more often if he is at school.

Sunday, August 17, 2008 - Good Sunday Morning

It has been a very frustrating week! My computer genius son decided it was time to add more power to his computer, it has taken him days to do it. I have missed everything that went on here this week. I will try and catch up. The good news is this computer is so nice now. He also got himself a HUGE flat screen monitor, which is good for a person like me that needs those bifocals! I did get my name for the Christmas exchange. Thank you Molly. I haven't been doing a lot of sewing... just trying to
get ready for another school year for the computer genius, he is a great person to "shop till you drop" with. He looked for all the sales and told me I should get myself a new pair of shoes since it was buy 1 get the 2nd 1/2 price. Gotta love that kid.
Talk to you all later.

Thursday, August 7, 2008 - Finished Butterfly Quilt

Here is a much better pic of the quilt now that it is quilted. The other one was so dark and blurry.I think the tie-dyed fabric was perfect for this. They are randomly set in the rows, some have 4 butterflies and some have 5, with different size  spacer pieces added, so it looks like they are flying around.   Kim

Monday, August 4, 2008 - Butterflies are free to fly, fly away quilt top

This butterfly quilt top was definitely a collaberate effort. Thank you Cheryl for the butterflies, they are on tie dyed fabric that looks like they are flying in the sky with the clouds. I wanted to do something different with them, and this is my version of the Butterfly quilt. I used my Mom's new Janome to do heart shaped antenna and for the applique. Also this wouldnt  be possible without Molly, I now know why I dont do scrappy quilts, they just to fiddley for me. But with Molly's "Tip of Day" it made it so much more pleasureable. THANK YOU!  Well have a good week everyone. Sure do miss Lane, Hope he is back on soon.   Kim

Thursday, July 31, 2008 - Come sit on the deck

Come and join me poolside, Since some of you want to sit on the deck,I thought this would give me a chance to show off our deck. My husband and I both did construction for a time and we put in this deck ourselves.. It took us 3 years, since there is 3 different levels. The first level is the table, grill and bar, the 2nd level is seating  and the fireplace and then there is a walkway that then goes down to the 3rd level that has a table and chairs and the pool.As you can see we had to do this as we live on a hill.     Its impossible to get a good picture of the whole thing. Everybody have a good evening. Kim

Wednesday, July 30, 2008 - Auntie Jo's Quilt with Baby

When my parents go back to England next month they are taking a quilt I posted earlier for my Auntie Lucy who will be 90 this year. I just could'nt leave out my Auntie Jo, so I made this quilt, with the purples and oranges. Years ago I absolutely hated thet combo of colors, but now I really do love it. Ya either love it or hate it! Of course Baby had to pose for the picture. He's a sweetheart. Ya... I know he is awful BIG for a baby.  One day I will get a picture of his Mama, she's just always out hunting and not much of a people cat. Have a great day. Kim

Monday, July 28, 2008 - Recycle...have I gone over the edge! Dryer Lint Postcard Art

This sun quilt postcard was my first, although it still needs the back put on. Then I thought,  Hey....I have heard of Dryer Lint Art, why wont it work for this. So the heart in the center is dryer lint. I really got creative today, although my family probably thinks that I have gone over the edge saving dryer lint.  Must go... I hear all the men are home.   Kim

Wednesday, July 16, 2008 - Surprise Sunflower quilt

I was in touch with this woman on Freecycle, that had recently lost her Mother and she wanted to donate her fabric and notions to me to help me make Project Linus quilts. I gladly accepted and when I unpacked the boxes....This quilt was at the bottom. I emailed her to make sure it wasnt a mistake, but she didnt want it and wanted me to put it to good use. It is a very large quilt and as you can see there is a lot of seams coming apart. The Sunflower blocks are all in good shape. I think I will take it apart and just save the Sunflowers and divide them into 2 and make 2 quilts. I have a lot of different Sunflower fabric from another recycler, I think maybe that was meant to be. Wish me luck with my seam ripper. Kim

Sunday, July 13, 2008 - Curved piece quilt

Finally a quilt to call my own. I have always had this curved piece quilt on my list. Although it is not finished, it is just the top. But I am happy anyways!! I like the fall colors and it will be nice to snuggle up  with when it starts getting cold outside. My neck and back are a bit better but I still am having a time sitting and posting and also sewing. So I will go and get this posted and rest for a while. Take Care, Kim

Friday, July 4, 2008 - Appliqued Kitty Quilt.

When my Mom and I had our sewing day last week, she left her new Janome sewing machine at my house so that I could try out all the different stitches. I am in LOVE with that machine. I did this appliqued cat quilt with some of the different stitches. It runs smooth and soooo nice! I saw this similar pattern on the internet and knew I had to do it for Linus. I am also looking for ideas. I would like to sew something and sell it. I thought if I start now, whatever it is... I could have quite a few done and sell them at Christmas. I am looking for something on the small side.My brain is still reeling. So if anyone has a suggestion, Please let me know. Thank you. Kim

Tuesday, July 1, 2008 - Denim Jean Quilt

You know that list you have of quilts that you want to make.I have always wanted to make a jean quilt.I have saved the jeans for quite awhile as the boys outgrew them. Then about a month ago I found this white jean fabric with dogs and cats on it. I thought that is perfect, I can now start my jean quilt.Let me tell you... I did not enjoy making this at all. Yes it was very simple. But my poor little machine did not want to go through all that fabric. A lot of the time I was pulling the fabric through cause it was to thick!! I broke 2 needles and my thumb is so sore from cutting the frayed edge every 3/8 of an inch. I can say I have been there and done that and I really dont care if I make another one.My next quilt will seem like a breeze after fighting with this one!   Kim

Monday, June 30, 2008 - Pretty in Pink

I had to whip up this pink gingham quilt for Project Linus. My Mom is ready to turn her 2 quilts that she made and I had nothing to offer.

She is coming over tomorrow with my Dad for our sewing day. I told my Dad that there are a few weeds with his name on them. He loves and lives to garden. He is your typical English gardener that putzs around the yard. I hope it doesnt rain. Have a good evening. Kim

Thursday, June 26, 2008 - Nanna's easy 2nd Quilt

Hi, I have been away from my computer for a few days. I missed everyone and I am finding it hard to catch up with everyones blog. Well I found this panel
at our local Goodwill store for .50 and gave it to my Mom to finish with a binding. She has now completed her second Project Linus quilt. EASY>>>> Thank you to everyone that commented on her first. She was eager to see what everyone said. She doesnt own a computer anymore since they moved back up here to Ohio. I have been busy cutting out quilts, I feel so scatterbrained. This is not like me to keep cutting and not finish a project. I have several started and just cant find the time and energy to sew. Maybe it is the weather. Talk to you all later. Kim
