Saturday, April 28, 2007 - mysteries

My plan is to put all my Paper Panache mysteries into one quilt.  I do have quite a few so far, so I might need to make more than one quilt with them.  Linda is so talented and giving by offering these mysteries.   They are then for sale. Kathy aka Kela

Wednesday, April 25, 2007 - A mystery of Carol Doaks

Are we having fun yet????? NOT!!!!  I started working at Lowe's, as a cashier, the end of Feb. and have decided I'd much rather be quilting........lol.....I'm sure lot's of you share those feelings.  But........  I did manage to make Carol Doak's mystery that she posted in her internet group.  Boy, that group is growing fast.  Soon we will hit 2000 members and mark 1 year of it's exsistance come June.  She has posted lot's of freebies and getting ready to post one to "celebrate" one year or 2000 members, which ever comes first.  Hope you all are getting in more quilting than I am:-)  And, hey, where is lori and Michelle???  They haven't posted for a while.  Have a nice day!  Kathy aka Kela

Wednesday, February 21, 2007 - I spy quilt for Shannon

I think I spy quilts are fun.  Just thinking about the excitment of the child as he/she try to find a particular object on a quilt, makes it all worthwhile.  This particular child loves Dora the Explorer, so I backed this quilt with a fabric of that character.  I am also making one for my nephew.  I have his name to paper piece and put on.  I'll probably back it with Disney's Cars fabric.  Shannon is a friends daughter.

Wednesday, January 10, 2007 - I'm back

I really don't know how you all do it with work and all.........I started working at Michaels the beginning of October.  Girl, that kept me busy.  All I wanted was to let my body catch up with me after a days work It is hard to belive it is January already.  My hours have been cut drastically, so now I have time to catch up some.  Don't get me wrong, I like working at Michaels, especially  for the money that made the Holidays nicer.  My whole paycheck DID NOT go right back into the store either.   Some did,  but always  used a coupon. love those 40 and  50%   off coupons especially during the holidays.  Our store accepts competitor coupons.....does yours?  Wouldn't hurt to ask......More later............I hope........

Tuesday, January 9, 2007 - curtain

Carol Doak (in her group)wanted us to make something with a snowflake block she gave us.  I made a curtain for the back door.  I worked with EQ5 to come up with a design......worked hard on it.....lol .....and then SEWED THE TWO ROWS WRONG!!!!!  The bottom row, should be the top row.....that is what happens when one is in a hurry.  It still turned out fine, but not as I had designed it so goes.  Hope your Holidays were great!  Kathy

Thursday, October 5, 2006 - Quilt Pink

It has been over a month since I've added an entry....Bad Me!  I have been sewing alot among other thingslol

Michelle had this "bright" idea......She heard about project Quilt Pink.....Blocks made of pink and white were to be made into a quilt and sent off to be auctioned off and the proceeds would go to Breast Cancer Research.  She wanted our group "Quilters Coast to Coast" to submit a 12"block that was pre choosen. Here is where I come in.....and she asked if I would put them all together. LOL I said I would.  She asked Dolly, from our group, if she would quilt it.  This is the quilt....it has arrived safely to Dollys and will be quilted and sent in.  We hope to keep a close eye on it and see how much money it will bring in for Breast Cancer Research.  Julie and Hazel, from these blogs, contributed blocks too.  I am quite please with how it turned out.  Kathy

Saturday, August 26, 2006 - Fall Bag

I needed a bag for the fall/winter months, so I spent the WHOLE day, practically, making it.  I made two of the paper pieced designs. One for the front and one for the back.  The pattern of the block is a free pattern that Carol Doak gave us to Celebrate a certain number of members reached on the group she started.  I reduced the pattern to make it 6".

Thursday, August 10, 2006 - Ally's blocks

I've never sewn curves before and found out it's not too bad as long as your are gentle while doing it.  I really wanted to make these blocks......they are for a quilt for a young girl with leukemia.  I got a news letter from  MaterialPleasure about this young girl and asked for us to make a block or two with jungle animals as the theme.  A pattern was sent, but not of right size, so I had the fun of remaking it in EQ.  What an experience......not being real good with EQ, it took me quite some time to make it right, but I DID IT!!!  What a learning experience.  I just checked my e-mails and found an update of the templates.  A little late.  My blocks came to 7.5 unfinished the size they were asking for.

I know Ally will love the quilt when her Grandmother puts all the blocks, she gets, together.

Hope you all have had a nice summer.  I can't believe it is almost gone.

Wednesday, July 12, 2006 - Quilt I won

It seems forever ago, I sent a couple of "orphan" blocks to Quilt Magazine.  They were going to pick out blocks and put them into a "sampler" quilt.  Those people whose blocks were chosen, were sent the magazine they were put into.  My first block was in the last Sampler Quilts magazine on the front cover, with the other blocks that were used.  Whose ever blocks were used, their names were put into a hat, sorta speak, and a name drawn for who would get that quilt.  I didn't get the first quilt, but I did win this quilt.  It's a 52" square.  My block is the star in the upper right hand corner with the red points and light background.  This time they did not list who the contributers of the blocks were.  My name is in the last magazine as a contirbuter.  It's kinda neat to see your name in a magazine that the whole worlds sees:-)

Sunday, July 2, 2006 - Ryan's quilt

Ryan is my grandson who lives in Maine.  He was here in 2004 and made the center of this quilt.  He was doing great until, I think he decided sewing wasn't for boys:-(.  He is here in Illinois for the summer, so I brought it out and decided to finish it.  Those are exotic birds.  WOO HOO!!!  It is done!  I hope it brings back good memories when he uses it.  It's a hot one here today.....98 degrees.....stay cool and have a safe and fun 4th of July.  Kela

Sunday, June 25, 2006 - Celebration Block

What are we celebrating you ask?  Carol Doak, Very popular quilt designer, has started a Yahoo group and we have reached 700 members already....since June 4th, so she designed a block in honor of that.  How cool is that for Carol to do that for us.  Also she has designed a Challenge block.  We will reveal our projects, made with the block, in September.  If you want to learn paper piecing, this would be a great group for you.  I've learned alot from it and I'm not new to paper piecing.  Lori got me involved in this group and she is one very hard person to keep up with.  It is because of her that I even got these blocks done......I've been trying to keep up with her.  I'm so proud of her and her paper piecing achievements!  One wouldn't know she just started paper piecing.  Way to go Lori!!!

I've been busy sewing.  Made one panel for curtains in my bedroom.  I have 3 more to do.  Made a tablerunner with material I used to make curtains in BR.  Solved mystery #40 at Paper Panache.  Made the two blocks from Carol's sight.  I'm working on neck coolers....I'm waiting for Watersorb, that I ordered, to arrive, so I can see how it works.  These are neck "ties" that when worn in hot weather will keep you cool.  The watersorb, absorbs water and holds it....keeping one cool. We shall see.  My grandkids will try them out.  Ok, I think I said enough.  I probably forgot something, but enough is enough...lol  I'll post my Challenge block next.

Have a Great week!  Kela

Friday, May 26, 2006 - Need idea's

These are from a "brown bag" swap.  No rolling your eyes Michelle because I don't have it done yet:-)  These are 12.5" unfinished blocks.  I'm thinking of putting 1.5" strips between the blocks, but not sure if they should be black or grey or something else....hummm, maybe red? The grey and black would probably just make everything look like it's running together.  This quilt is already 60" by 60" and I don't want it too much bigger.  I thought about making it 4 by 6 rows but then I'd have a block left over.  That would make it longer but not as wide.......HELP!!!
