Friday, May 26, 2006 - Need idea's

These are from a "brown bag" swap.  No rolling your eyes Michelle because I don't have it done yet:-)  These are 12.5" unfinished blocks.  I'm thinking of putting 1.5" strips between the blocks, but not sure if they should be black or grey or something else....hummm, maybe red? The grey and black would probably just make everything look like it's running together.  This quilt is already 60" by 60" and I don't want it too much bigger.  I thought about making it 4 by 6 rows but then I'd have a block left over.  That would make it longer but not as wide.......HELP!!!

I think red sashing strips would really make the blocks pop. I definetely wouldn't do grey or black b/c I think they would run together like you said.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

OMG! I would be the last person to roll my eyes you silly goose! I like the idea of either a gold or a red or, if you can find it a border fabric with all those colors, then do a small sashing of one color, a tiny border of the other and the corner stones be the border fabric too! Is that clear as mud?! I think your blocks would really stand out like Sarah said if you choose the red family! Good luck! Is this for Fernando?! Michelle

I have to agree I think the red would be great, black or gray would just fade into the quilt,, but than I love red,,,,I really think it would make everything just pop, by the way your applique quilt is great, love all the designs

I agree, a narrow red, gold, or green sashing would look great. If you are concerned about the quilt being too big to machine quilt, this would be a perfect time to try the quilt as you go/reverse quilting method. You could quilt each block, and then when you sew the quilted blocks together with the sashing, your quilt would be done except the binding. I have used this method from "Reversible Quilts" by Sharon Pederson, and love how fast and easy it is to finish a quilt. It is also a good way to try free motion quilting without fear of ruining an entire quilt. If you don't like the way the quilting looks after doing a block, you can make a new block. Good luck, it is going to be a beautiful quilt. Karen

I think I'd make it the red or a black and white print with white being the primary color.
