Friday, June 30, 2006 - Nine Patch Polyester Couch Throw

Well, I finished one but not the one I was working on when I last posted!  LOL  I got done with the top for my son's camping quilt and had some squares leftover so threw them together into 9 patch blocks and added plain squares and made this 60 x 74 couch throw... fairly large for a couch throw but could be used for extra blanket on a bed too.  I did not use a batting.. it has a heavy flannel backing and the top is made out of heavy materials as well, polyesters etc... so I just tied it and pulled the backing around to the front and machine stitched it down... very easy and quick and now that it is out of the way I am working on hand stitching the binding on my fan quilt which I machine quilted this week.  That should be done sometime today and will post a pic of that as well....THEN I can get back to my son's camping quilt!  I just need to tie it and bind it!

    Sunday, June 18, 2006 - Haven't accomplished much!

I haven't done much quilting lately at all.... I had to set things aside and work on some covers for a friend of mine and then we had company for about a week.  So yesterday I finally got back into it but in doing so I ended up starting a new project!!  I have 3 quilts in different stages sitting in the corner staring at me and I dared to start a new one!  Well, my son asked me to make him a quilt for his camper and I had some precut squares in a box which I had used a few years back to make myself one for our camper and he liked that one so I pulled them out and have been trimming and squaring them up and late yesterday started stitching them together.  This box was purchased at a garage sale, it was almost all squares cut from mens suit material so they make really warm quilts!  but they are hard to work with as they are all different types of materials.  I plan to plug away at that again today.  The weather has been hot and humid here with a few stormy days and nights.  Heading into July that doesn't surprise me...its that time of year!  I am loving all the interesting and beautiful things you are all working on....love to look at the pics!!!  Have a Happy Father's day for those of you who have plans... hope your weather is great for your picnics or whatever!

Sunday, June 4, 2006 - Time is Flying By So Fast!!!

I cannot believe it is June 4th already....where DOES the time go??  I havent done a whole lot since I got the pin basting done on my fan quilt....I did work on the sashing for another top.... I just call them scrappy crazy blocks...I made one for my daughter for Christmas and used yellow as the center focal point with blue sashing and it turned out really nice so this time I used red for the centers and had planned (and cut) red sashing but ran out of material!!  LOL  SO...I went with blue again as I had alot of that!  Anyway, I have almost all the sashing done on that and was in the process of putting the groups of squares together on Friday when I went out to check on our dog who has been ill recently and discovered he had died.  Mixed emotions!  He was old and was ill but I am glad he didn't suffer much at all.... when we couldn't get him to eat at all on Thursday we knew the time was nearing and he didn't even make it 24 hours more.  So even tho it is still very sad and he will be greatly missed, life continues... I have two other dogs left.... Our "brood" has dwindled from 5 dogs to 2 now.  And one of them is 10 and the other is 3.... and of course I still have my three cats!  Anyway, I did put my quilting away after that discovery as we had to deal with that and then yesterday my kids came out and I had just baked a fresh batch of choc chip cookies and put some dinner in the crock pot so luckily I had something to feed them!  LOL  We had a nice dinner and visit and shared memories of our beloved "Chinook" (malamute) and I hope I stressed it enough to both my kids "NO MORE PUPPIES!!!"  LOL    Today I am doing laundry and cleaning and tomorrow I get DGD for the night and all day Tuesday so will probably not get back to my quilting until Wednesday!!  I guess a little break from it won't hurt me too much!!!  Hope you are all having fun with your quilting projects!!!

    Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - What I'm working on

This is what I have been working on.  I actually put the fan blades together a couple years ago and it was a kit and I was so dissatisfied with the way they came out I shoved them in a box and forgot about them for awhile!  LOL  Anyway, I pulled them out and worked on them again.. managed to square them up and because I'm not really into applique I used lace to stitch them onto the background... I got the squares all put together Friday and Saturday I spent most of the day zig zag stitching ALOT of places where the first stitches didn't take hold!  My fault!  Should have used a wider stitch.  anyway today I pin basted it and now its ready to quilt.  Don't know if I am ready to quilt it though!  LOL  I've never tried machine quilting one this big...it is 72 x 86... I've never quilted anything larger than a couch throw so this will definitely be a new experience for me.  I usually tie quilts this big but because of the pattern I decided it just would not look good tied.  The dark color is actually burgandy...it shows up really dark in this photo!

    Friday, May 26, 2006 - Double Pinwheel

I started this quilt a few months back and after getting it sandwiched and tied decided to do the prairie point border.... well, I  made the prairie points and this being my first time attempting them I panicked and set it aside for a couple months!  I pulled it out Tuesday and finished it yesterday.  It is bright and bold on both the front and back!  I found that "surfer" material and it wasn't quite wide enough so added black to each side.  The prairie points are the same yellow and black as in the quilt top.  It wasn't as much fun to work with the ppts as I thought it would be!  I will probably never make them again!  LOL  I am just happy to be done with it...  I only made it because I wanted to try the double pinwheel pattern...when I ran out of material after finishing the squares I had to come up with a sashing pattern to set them off and make it the size I wanted.   Being that I was planning to keep this for myself anyway, I attached the backing by machine...it doesn't look so awful and I'm not that fussy anyway!  LOL

    Sunday, May 21, 2006 - Crib Quilt

The daughter of a friend of mine had a baby boy May 1st and she brought the baby up yesterday for all to see and at 10:00 yesterday morning I decided I shouldn't go without bringing a gift so I threw this together rather quickly.....took me a couple hours but I used the birthing method to avoid having to put a binding on it!  LOL  Cheated!  The color is actually blue...don't know why it showed up green in the picture!

Friday, May 19, 2006 - Square Table topper

    <>
Well, while going thru a box the other day I ran into these HST's already stitched together so squared them up, added a border and binding and made a topper out of it!  Something to do!  Like I don't have any UFO's!  LOL

    Wednesday, May 17, 2006 - Springer Wallhanging

Well, finished the third panel....I again used the birch bark material but this time used it as a border and then used black for binding...however...I should have only used a single layer as the material was a little heavy and it made the corners difficult so they aren't very sharp.  This one is for another sister who has a springer named "Jack"  Other than finishing this I have two quilt tops done ... a couch throw size which will be machine quilted and a double size quilt which I will tie....I'm keeping busy!

Tuesday, May 9, 2006 - Chocolate Lab Wallhanging

This is the first of three panels I am quilting for some people who requested them.  You can't see the quilting very good in this picture and you can't see the birch bark material I used for the binding very well either but I am happy with the way it turned out.  I also have been busy with another quilt but when I went to put the borders on it I had some trouble so set that aside and decided to get some of these smaller projects out of the way....hopefully when I go back to the quilt things will go better!

Spent the weekend (opening fishing here in Wisconsin) camping...got to take DGD with us for one night...had a blast!  Caught lots of fish and had a fish fry Saturday night.  Since we got back its done nothing but rain and my lawn needs mowing desparately!  Guess that has to wait!  So I am busy quilting in the mean time!!  Hope you are all keeping busy....haven't had a chance to read any postings but will try to do that in the next couple days and catch up with what you are all up to!

Friday, April 28, 2006 - Busy and Productive week!

Well, I had DGD on Sunday night and all day Monday, so I set aside the quilt I'm working on for my sister (summer quilt) as it would have required alot more concentration than I would have been able to give it with her here!  LOL  So I started making some blocks for another quilt just for something to work on and I got so involved that over three days I made all 80 blocks that I will need for the size I wanted!!  LOL

I resumed quilting yesterday and finished that up and started to attach the binding when I realized how gorgeous it was outside and decided I should spend some time outdoors enjoying it while I can!  So I went out and got on my riding mower and mowed a little lawn.  Glad I did too as we are supposed to have rain for the next few days I guess.

I have 3 cats.......one is inside all the time (Pebbles)...one is outside all the time (BamBam) and the other (Tinker) is in and out.....Well, Monday morning Tinker didn't show up as usual at the door to be let in and I haven't seen him since.  I am quite sad about this....I know living in the country many things can happen to our pets but he was such a great cat....wasn't even a year old yet....would have been next month.  He was great with DGD...she could pick him up and carry him all over with her without getting scratched or bitten...he was a very lovable cat...loved to be held and cuddled.  We have been seeing a lot of fox around here lately and then of course there is always owls around so we figure one or the other must have gotten ahold of him.  If he had just run off he should have been back by now.  I've been all over looking for him and no sign of him.  Anyway, that was a sad thing for me this week and I guess thats why I kept myself so busy sewing and quilting!!  I will post a picture of the finished quilt when I get done with the binding.

    Saturday, April 22, 2006 - My sister's "summer" quilt

I think I may have mentioned in an earlier post that my sister had "commissioned me to make her quilts for each season...well, her spring one has been hanging on her rack for a couple months now and I thought it was time to get her summer one done... I finished the top today!..this is a pic of the finished top...still have to pin baste and quilt it...will start on that tomorrow.  The first row depicts the summer fruits and vegetables...the second depicts their farming activities and the third their recreational activities... thats supposed to look like my BIL in the boat sleeping with his cowboy hat and boots on!  LOL  It was fun to make!  I will post some closeup pics so you can see the details better.

Thursday, April 20, 2006 - Getting back to normal

Well, my mother got to go home yesterday, they put her on meds for her blockage problems.  I haven't talked to her yet but will probably give her another day and call her tomorrow.

I made potato and ham soup out of the Easter leftovers yesterday and it turned out pretty good.

Today I plan to get my sewing back out and get working on something!  I've missed it these past couple weeks!  Have a great day all.

    Monday, April 17, 2006 - Happy Easter

I had a busy past week...got all my cleaning done and the sewing put away and started food preparations on Saturday.

Here is a picture of the cake I made for Easter.  The day didn't start out all too well but we ended up having a very nice dinner at least.  I got a call right away in the morning, my mother was hospitalized...they will be running tests today to find out whats going on.  She collapsed and had some type of a seizure.  They will be doing an angiogram today.

But I had 8 people for dinner...two didn't show up...no phone call or anything so I was a little preturbed by that as well.  After dinner my kids stuck around and did some 4 wheeling thru the woods, they had a great time.  DGD even has her own little wheeler so that was a treat to watch her ride.  She ended up spending the night and is still sleeping now.  This week I probably won't get much sewing timie in but maybe toward the end of the week I can start bringing the mess back out into the dining room again!  Hope you all had a great Easter.

I got three projects done last week, a wallhanging, and two quilts...only got pics taken of the two tho.  Will get one of the other one later this week.

Have to put my sewing away for a week tho as I have my spring cleaning to do and prepare things for Easter dinner on Sunday.  Got two rooms done yesterday, plan to do two more today.  Its great having all the doors and windows open again!!!  So far I've seen a cardinal, an oriole, black capped chicadees, lots of bluebirds and robins..... and they were all singing along with the frogs!

Temps in the 70's this week with some rain and thunderstorms predicted.
